Ten years ago, Katie Oakley wanted to do a degree in teaching. But on finding there were no places left, she opted instead for a degree in broadcast media, with the intention of moving onto a teacher training top-up year some time later.

That never happened, because during her broadcast media studies she was snapped up by The Foundation for a production role on Mister Maker Around the World for CBeebies.

“It was surreal”, she recalls. “This was a show I’d watched with my kids, and here I was working on it!”

Made at The Maidstone Studios, it was working on that show that led to her meeting Nic Ayling, Driana Jones and Richard Hunt. In 2019, she joined Terrific Television as a Junior Production Manager on the third series of My World Kitchen.

Now, as Head of Production overseeing the company’s entire output, she’s loving the job more than ever. “There’s nothing better than working with this amazing team to produce amazing content for children to engage with”, she says.
